Waterfall Decorations

We imagine interacting with a Decode Waterfall as an open testbed for interaction mechanisms, some easily simulated in 2d, others unique to the TiltFive hardware.

Our pilot implementation is web based in svg rendered by Mike Bostock's d3.js. chart

Specify or compute radio tuning offsets by comparing identical decodes. ✔

Handle slot (hhmmss) wrap around at 0000 utc. ✔

Make this scroll down smoothly every 15 seconds.

Simulate viewing angle by drawing grid and radio planes and adjusting their relative position in a smooth back-and-forth motion. ✔

Encode signal strength by increased thickness and opacity.

> K1JT K9OX -03 > K9OX K1JT R-15 > K1JT K9OX R73

Touch a decode to highlight all similar decodes by all radios. Both parties to an exchange are similar. ✔

Highlight decodes matching a provided search string. ✔

Enable remote viewing by broadcasting gestures as they are recognized.

We understand a variety of novel interactions are possible by reaching into the table top scene.

Select a region to render additional properties within that region. Keyboard selectable tools select specific decorations that may or may not drift with the data.

Query details by "playing cards" that render more information within a limited part of the scene. Provide a "deck" of useful measurements.

A raw-data camera card could snap a picture of the source signal FFT of a small region. Snaps would drift with the data it examined, possibly collecting in a bin for later review.

Expose a massive globe under the table. Rotate it to show tx and rx grid squares when known.
